I was born in Linz, Austria in 1982. I studied computer science and business in Austria and in the UK, I worked as a software engineer in Austria for many years, and in 2011 I got my PhD in computational intelligence from De Montfort University (UK). After my studies, I decided to apply for a permanent residence visa for Australia, because I cannot stand Austrian winters. In November 2012 I finally migrated to Australia. Now I live in Brisbane and act as a sole trader. My recent job was to port an iPhone app to Android.

I love travelling, doing sports and studying nature. I have been to all permanently inhabited continents, I enjoyed scuba diving all over the world and I volunteered in a wildlife conservation project in Tanzania. I am interested in the behaviour of complex systems (artificial intelligence, ecosystems, animals, social systems, ...), in science, and in technology. I also participated in several non-party community projects.

My personal goals are to start a family and to live a varied but more or less carefree life. I would love to contribute to the lives of future generations in a positive way. I want to keep travelling and I want to keep developing myself.

Please contact me at andreas.271828@gmail.com.

Thoughts on a Resource-Based Economic Model (RBEM)

For me an RBEM is a system that tries to minimize total discontent in a sustainable way. An important part of the system is active resource management, but the social aspect is just as important as the environmental aspect. Hence, maximizing freedom and taking individual needs and preferences into account are major issues of an RBEM.

Science and technology seem to be cornerstones in an RBEM. A major goal is to provide resources in abundance, which are freely accessible for everyone. Access to scarce resources will be granted by consent.

Possible Consequences

In my opinion, some of the following possible consequences are falsely seen as requirements by many supporters of an RBEM.

  • Improvement, reduction and potential removal of the use of money: My current view is that money as we know it will disappear completely in an RBEM, but reward systems that have some common features with money will persist.
  • Improvement, reduction and potential removal of laws: My current view is that most public laws will be redundant. Conflicts of interests will be solved with the best currently available solution. Help can be provided by third parties, but conflicts have to be solved solely by the involved parties. There will still be contracts to define procedures of collaboration in advance.
  • Improvement, reduction and potential removal of government: My current view is that specialists will be required to create knowledge, plans and standards or to communicate interests. Such specialists can help to solve conflicts, but only the involved parties can make decisions (though someone could still decide to delegate certain decisions for a certain period to a specialist or a protocol).

Implementation

For me it will be crucial that an RBEM must be able to be used within the current social system. More specifically this means that I must be able to keep current social and business relationships, I must be able to travel freely, and I must be able to get products and services that are not available in an RBEM system yet. This means that I must be able to earn money and to have private property. These are personal concerns, but I think they are also essential for an RBEM to work on a large scale.

The solution is that I can use my time and any abundant resources that come from the RBEM and do not compromise sustainability (e.g. energy, knowledge, communication and transportation) for whatever I like. I can purchase, store, process and sell private property. The use of scarce resources or the removal of non-renewable RBEM resources must, of course, be granted by the other parties of the RBEM system.

RBE10K and other RBEM Projects

I am very interested in the development of RBEM projects. I am very curious how projects at different scales evolve. There are also many tasks that I would be interested in executing: e.g. project planning and management, development of systems and technologies, implementing software, conducting research, and training people. I want to learn more in many areas, but there are also areas that I prefer leaving to other people, although I like to enjoy the results (e.g. gardening, cooking, and arts). However, both lists are neither complete nor static.

Certainly there are some conditions for different degrees of participation. Participation in an RBEM project must not prevent participation in the remaining world (see concerns raised above). The degree of participation also depends on the physical location of projects and my current social and business relationships. Another issue for motivation and the degree of participation is the level of organisational efficiency. With many projects information is available in abundance, but it is so poorly structured that it is hard to use. Meeting agendas often tend to be too flexible, and in many cases are not followed very well. Sometimes, meeting agendas are also too general and roles at meetings and for other issues of a project are not clear, which results in slow progress. The RBEM Wiki seems to be a great opportunity to overcome some of these problems!
